Oswego County Sheriff’s Deputy Kristy Crast discusses law enforcement roles and responsibilities as part of the Fulton Junior High School Career Day. Students (from left) Ashton Taylor, Jesse Taylor and Mason Firenze were eager to learn about police work during Crast’s presentation. The students learned about a variety of job sectors during the schools recent Career Day. The event, sponsored by Fulton Community School, provided seventh and eighth graders with an opportunity to meet with nearly two dozen college representatives and local employers. Students learned about jobs ranging from the trades to public safety to hospitality. Divided into small groups, the seventh and eighth graders met some of the employers in classrooms and learned about specific job duties, education requirements and the skills needed to be a good employee in that particular position. This is such a great event, said Janice Scott, resource coordinator of the Fulton Community School initiative. When the students meet with our guests, it reinforces the importance of education and coming to school every day. Showing up and doing your best every day is where it starts.
